Search for the missing Blenheim

'...The heat was really unbearable and the crew used their emergency tent to set it up under the aircraft wing... as local people gradually started to trickle out of the bush they were seen to be very poor (yet regularly they left a scrawny chicken by the tent flap)...'     (extract from Josephine's letter to her niece)

Thomas lived peacefully alongside the villagers until the dramatic rescue by nomadic horsemen, which he described as being more frightening than the crash and resulted in the eventual death of the second crew member.

He never forgot the kindness shown to him by the local people.

He shared daily tasks and learnt many things from his new hosts - hosts who graciously welcomed a very unexpected guest the day the Blenheim crashed in their back yard.

Official RAF records for aircraft lost on the Takoradi Run are sketchy and limited.

Research - using the clues in the journal and letters of Josephine - has narrowed down the area to a remote part of Chad.

The expedition team hopes to find the site of the missing Blenheim and the grave of the courageous Polish pilot who lost his life whilst crash-landing the aircraft -

and Thomas's family would love to connect with descendants of the villagers who took care of Thomas whilst he was lost.
